The British High Commissioner, Vincent Fean has presented a cheque for Lm620 to the Malta Chamber of Engineers as a contribution towards the cost of design and development of the chamber's website.
"Many of Malta's best engineers undertook postgraduate studies in the UK, creating productive networks of contact with UK universities and with the institutes of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering," Mr Fean said.
"We need to reinforce those links now, as Malta and the UK are strengthening their relationship in the EU. I hope that this excellent, informative initiative will spark more collaborative projects between Maltese and British engineers, for example, via the EU Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Development".
The enhanced website, which will be launched officially later this year, will provide all members of the chamber with an effective communication channel and will facilitate links to UK-based societies. It will contain a wide variety of information which should help Malta's engineers to keep up to date with developments in their profession.
