Malta's first lady, Violet de Marco and Isabelle Borg, wife of Foreign Minister Joe Borg, on Monday night had a private meeting with Safia Gaddafi and Aicha Gaddafi, wife and daughter respectively of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The meeting was held at the Bab Africa Corinthia Hotel, in Tripoli which hosted President de Marco and his delegation for the last part of his state visit to Libya.

The visit has been described as fruitful by Prof. de Marco, who had separate meetings with Col. Gaddafi and Libyan Prime Minister Shukre Ghanemm.

Both meetings discussed bilateral and trade relations, the situation in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Malta's role as a link between Europe and North Africa.

Prof. de Marco, who returned to Malta yesterday morning, also invited Col. Gaddafi to visit Malta.
