Tristan Falzon, 21 of Qormi, was yesterday found guilty of the theft of Lm1,000 to the detriment of his father Carmelo and given a two year jail term suspended for four years.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera noted that the accused had voluntarily admitted his guilt and appointed a probation officer to draw up a pre-sentencing report.

The court noted that the probation officer concluded that Falzon was given whatever he wanted and was protected by his mother in such a way as to hinder him from learning to fend for himself.

The court noted that Falzon did not have a fixed job, was not doing a drug rehabilitation programme and had little control over his actions.

The court also considered his clean criminal record and put him under the supervision of a probation officer for the full term of the suspended sentence.

Insp. Chris Galea Scannura prosecuted.
