A 24-year old man from Cospicua was yesterday remanded in custody after he was charged with theft.
Stephen Galea was charged with stealing a water heater from a van belonging to Forestals and with stealing other goods from a car belonging to Jason John Scerri.
Galea was also charged with being in possession of heroin and with relapsing.
Dr Anthony Cutajar, defence counsel, requested bail and Inspector Mario Tonna, who prosecuted, objected because there was another person involved in the thefts who had not yet been arrested and the accused was abusing drugs even though he was following a rehabilitation programme.
Magistrate Michael Mallia said the court was not satisfied that the accused would obey court orders and decided he should be remanded in custody until the evidence was heard.
