Pensioners kept waiting unfairly

Pensioners are urged to use their senior citizenship ID card so that they are not kept waiting in government departments, banks etc... The Ministry of Social Policy is being the worst offender when it comes to keeping pensioners waiting!

A number of pensioners have approached me to raise in parliament their grievance that they have been waiting for more than a year to have their pension adjusted to reflect the agreement reached between the government and the unions before the budget for 2003.

The only answer I have been given in parliament so far is that pensions are adjusted continuously and that it is a slow process and that eventually pensioners will get their due!

It is unfair that more than a year has passed and pensioners are still waiting for the rise they got.

Many pensioners are already finding it hard to make ends meet. Their life should not be made harder.
