The consulate of the Czech Republic, in association with the Maltese-Czech Society and with the co-operation of the University Students' Council (KSU), will be commemorating Jan Palach, the Czech philosophy student at Charles University, Prague who, in 1968, immolated himself in protest against the foreign occupation of his country.
The commemoration will be held at the University of Malta, Tal-Qroqq on Tuesday at 5.30 p.m.
President Guido de Marco, together with Professor Roger Ellul Micallef, Rector of the University of Malta, will be unveiling a plaque to commemorate the occasion at the Students' House.
The event will also coincide with the visit to Malta of a delegation from the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, who together with the Czech Ambassador to Malta Libor Secka will be attending the event.
The keynote speech of the evening will be delivered by Mr Michael Falzon, A&CE, who in 1968 was president of KSU. A film on Jan Palach will be screened.
The general public is cordially invited to attend.
