In December WasteServ collected 26,360kg of paper, 6,8680kg of plastic, 4,740kg of metal and 11,600kg of glass, all of which will be recycled, Resources Minister Ninu Zammit said yesterday.

Chris Ciantar, of WasteServ Malta Ltd, delivered the speech on the minister's behalf at the launch of the Young Enterprise company Solutions at the Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel, in St Julians.

The Ministry for Resources and Infrastructure has just embarked upon a national educational campaign encouraging the Maltese to make use of Bring-in Sites.

Scattered in various localities, these Bring-in Sites are being introduced gradually with the collaboration of the local councils. Since the introduction of Bring-in Sites, WasteServ Malta Ltd has registered an "impressive" increase in the collection of recyclable materials which are processed at the Sant' Antnin Waste Recycling Plant, in Marsascala.

Apart from the traditional recyclables, WasteServ has launched a scheme to collect used electronic waste.
