A 25-year-old man, who was originally given a one-year jail term suspended for three years, yesterday had the jail term suspended by another year after he admitted to stealing a handbag.

Jason Azzopardi pleaded guilty to stealing a handbag during the operative time of the one-year suspended jail term that had been handed down in July, 2001.

On handing down judgment Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ruled that Azzopardi had shown a sincere effort to overcome his drug problem and deserved one last chance to change his ways.

She prolonged the operative time of the suspended jail term by a year.

Police Inspector Carmelo Bartolo prosecuted.
