Villa Messina, in Rabat has won the 2003 Home of the Year Award organised by CareMalta, which offers care and accommodation to elderly people.

The award was presented to the matron of Villa Messina, Marie Craus, by Nazzareno Vassallo, chairman of the CareMalta Group.

The award is based upon the results of a series of audits carried out throughout the year by senior officials from CareMalta head office.

Various important managerial, operational and administrative aspects of the running of an old people's home are inspected in the audits.

The Home of the Year Award scheme was officially launched in 2001 and aims to ensure that CareMalta-operated homes always seek to offer the highest standards.

CareMalta operates four facilities for the elderly, namely Casa Arkati, in Mosta, Villa Messina, in Rabat and the government homes in Zejtun and Cospicua, which together cater for over 550 residents.
