Maritime safety course

Sea Malta, in collaboration with Bureau Veritas Malta, has just organised a four-day course on the international ship and port facilities security code (ISPS).

The course offered the 20 participants from various maritime organisations the opportunity to qualify as company security and ship security officers.

The course covered a wide range of subjects including bomb searches, recognition of ammunition and identifying suspicious personnel among a number of other subjects related to security issues within maritime environments.

Shipping companies trading in international waters must comply with the code by July this year.

Sea Malta had started the ball rolling in July of last year when, in collaboration with the Malta Maritime Authority and Bureau Veritas, it organised an information seminar for 120 delegates.
