The construction of a new home for the Little Sisters of the Poor, now in progress at Hamrun, was on the table of discussions when a delegation from the Little Sisters called on President Guido de Marco at the Palace, in Valletta.
Christine Debono, chairman of the Friends of the Little Sisters of the Poor, noted that progress on the building was being made slowly but surely to ensure that the elderly in the sisters' care are given the best home comforts and facilities. Prof. de Marco said the Home for the Elderly and the Little Sisters were very dear to his heart since he lived so close to their home in Hamrun and he had visited so many times.
Ms Debono said the Friends have been helping the Little Sisters for over 30 years by organising entertaining events which yielded profit. All the members of the committee help on a voluntary basis.
Present for the meeting were committee members Andrew and Madeleine de Domenico, Blanche Martin, Helene Zammit and Liliane Avellino together with Sister Aimee and Sister Benigna.
At present, the Friends of the Little Sisters are planning the fund raising calendar for the coming year.
