The House of Representatives yesterday approved the setting up of a parliamentary standing committee for development planning in terms of the Planning Development Act.

The committee is composed of Environment and Rural Affairs Minister George Pullicino as chairman, Nationalist MPs Helen D'Amato and Tonio Fenech and Labour MPs Joe Brincat and Charles Buhagiar.

The Development Planning Act provides that any development plan referred to the House will first be reviewed by the committee which shall recommend to the House whether it should be approved, with or without amendments, or rejected.

The committee may also discuss any report referred to it by the minister related to the structure plan or any review thereof.
