President Guido de Marco, accompanied by Mrs de Marco, on Tuesday starts a five-day state visit to Italy on the invitation of Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

In Rome, President de Marco will be holding talks with President Ciampi and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi among others.

He will also be inaugurating the Academic Year of the Link Campus University, addressing businessmen at the Unione degli Industriali di Roma and presiding over a wreath laying ceremony at the Altare della Patria.

President de Marco will be received in audience by Pope John Paul II.

The President's engagements in Italy will continue in Milan and Palermo.
