A team of Optimist sailors from the Malta Young Sailors Club achieved creditable results in the 'Regatta Trofeo Marcello Campobasso 2004' in Naples.

This international regatta, held in the first week of this month, attracted 135 sailors from 10 countries, with the top ten European sailors vying for first place.

Weather conditions permitted six races in all, with a windy start of 25-30 knots on the first day of racing.

On the second day, only one race was held due to light winds while two races in moderate wind took place on the third day.

Despite facing fierce competition, the Maltese sailors fought their way to the front of the fleet.

Benjamin Borg was first among the Maltese sailors, placing 11th overall. William Camilleri finished 34th.

In the Cadet Class, Sean Borg claimed fifth place while Gabriel Pace was 10th.
