Obituary

FALZON. On January 14, at St Vincent de Paul residence, DORIS, of Sliema, widow of Paul, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved children Edgar, widower of Nancy, Lilianne and her husband Antoine Cesareo, Anthony and his wife Martes, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and their families, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul today at 8 a.m. for St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.45 a.m., followed by interment in the family vault at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations in her memory to Qaddejja tac-Cenaklu, Dar tal-Kleru, Birkirkara, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

GALEA. On January 14, at St Vincent de Paul residence, AGOSTINO of Marsa, passed peacefully away, aged 83, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his brothers Frank, Martin and Kelinu of Australia, and their respective families, Salvu and Carmen Pulis who cared for him, their daughters and their respective families, Anna and her fiancé Reuben, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P. GARZIA. On January 15, Emanuel, a beloved husband, devoted father and doting grandfather, passed peacefully away. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Mary Doris and children Christine and fiancé Matthew, Jonathan and wife Suzanne, Amanda and husband Kevin together with grandson Ryan. He is also mourned by his brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, their partners and children as well as other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow morning for the parish church of Kalkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at Tarxien cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Abandoned Animals Association would be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MUSCAT. On January 15, at St Luke's Hospital, EMMANUEL, of Hamrun, former Major in the RMA, aged 75, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Carmen, his children Margaret, Marthese wife of Joe Schiavone, Paul husband of Misty and John husband of Stefania, his grandchildren David, Matthew and Steven, his sister Katarin, his brothers Louis and Salvu, his in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. for the Immaculate Conception parish church in Hamrun where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.15 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. Talk On Stress

The Institute of Financial Services is holding a talk by clinical psychologist Alfred Darmanin SJ at the Malta Stock Exchange, Valletta on Tuesday at 6 p.m. as part of its continuous professional development programme for the financial services sector.

The subject is the causes and effects of stress. More importantly, it will offer practical remedies for dealing with, and preventing, stress, the IFS said.

Initiatives Agreed On

APS Bank Ltd. and the Malta Union of Bank Employees have signed a collective agreement covering the period 2002 - 2004.

The agreement provides for initiatives aimed at re-organising current work practices.

Applications For Restoration Grant

The Europa Nostra Restoration Fund is calling for applicants for this year's grant, a financial contribution given for the restoration of part of an endangered building or site.

The annual grant is for buildings or sites of architectural and historical value in private ownership or owned by a local non-profit non governmental organisations.

At present the grant amounts to a maximum of €20,000.

The money should act as a stimulus to initiate the restoration and to inspire a multiplying effect of matching funds donated by private or other sponsors. The project has to be on a scale which enables the grant to make a significant contribution to its completion.

The closing date for applications is November 1.

Europa Nostra also invited entries for the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards 2004.

Outstanding heritage achievements will be rewarded by six money prizes of €10,000 each, in addition to medals and diplomas in the following categories: an outstanding restoration project in the field of - architectural heritage, cultural landscapes, collections of works of art and archaeological sites; an outstanding study in the field of cultural heritage and dedicated service to heritage conservation by individuals or groups.

The closing date is September 15.

Collective Agreement

Supervisors at Foster Clarks Products will be benefiting from higher wages and other measures as a result of a new collective agreement negotiated by the General Workers' Union.

The agreement, which is backdated to January 1, 2002, also provides for allowances for shift work and special leave.

Group Appointment

The Global Group has appointed Kenneth Spiteri to head its private clients division after having successfully spearheaded the group's retail sales division.

The private clients division is aimed at high net worth clients seeking a very personalised and comprehensive financial service.

Floriana Meeting

The Floriana council will be holding a meeting on February 6 and 7 to discuss matters affecting the locality.

It invited organisations in the locality and people from Floriana, both residents and non-residents, to move any points they want to discuss by January 28.

These points should take the form of a resolution so that a vote on them could be taken by those present.

Heritage Talks

As part of its outreach programme, Heritage Malta has lined up the second series of public lectures focusing on the Museums and Heritage Sites it manages.

These lectures, titled Museums and Heritage Sites - Past, Present and Future, form part of Heritage Malta's policy of making national heritage more accessible to the general public.
