TV personalities Ray Calleja and Andrea Cassar will be compèring this year's Malta Song for Europe Festival to be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta, on February 14.

Maltasong, the organisers, said that in a quest to give festival participants equal coverage they will first appear in a number of television and radio programmes. With just one month to go before one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, the 16 contestants view the move as a chance to give the public a taste of their performance.

Maltasong believes that this year, more than ever, it is crucial that the song chosen to represent Malta is of an excellent standard. In order to make it to the final night of the Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Turkey in May, the song will first have to participate in a qualifying round from which just 10 out of the 24 songs will go through.

It was vital that all those participating in the televoting will vote for the best song, Maltasong said.

The board has identified a number of programmes on various stations to host the singers. These are Sibt '33 and Mill-Box on TVM, Siesta on Net TV, Kalamita and Flimkien on Super 1 TV and the daily programme hosted by Ray Calleja on Radju Malta.
