Netball enthusiasts had good reason to be happy on Sunday as for the first time ever matches were held indoors at the University Sports Hall, Tal-Qroqq.
In an opening ceremony, players and officials were addressed by Minister for Youth and the Arts Jesmond Mugliett, MOC president Lino Farrugia Sacco and Malta Netball Association head Romina Carabott.
Other guests on the occasion included Vivienne Gatt, president of the Federation of European Netball Associations (FENA).
Division ONE
Kerygma 'A' 21
HSBC 21
No doubt, this was the match of the day. At first, Kerygma were the better team showing well coordinated tactics. Until the third quarter they led 18-14.
Despite their better scoring chances (63 attempts against 40 for HSBC), Kerygma failed to open a good advantage though.
Furthermore, after HSBC effected some substitutions, Kery-gma slowed down and eventually had to settle for a draw.
Umpires: Sandra Farrugia, Rose Abdilla.
Fuego Champs 36
Marsascala 21
Newcomers Marsascala gave their utmost against champions Fuego. By half-time they were trailing only four shots behind (16-12).
However, in the end, experience and confidence turned the tide to the side of the better team.
Umpires: Josette Calleja and Maria Farrugia.
Division TWO
Mellieha 11
Wolverines 47
This score indicates an easy win for Wolverines but the young Mellieha side still tried their best.
The stature of Wolverines circle players was evident when considering the number of rebounds taken and eventual scoring.
Umpires: Jennifer Mangani and Caroline Dingli.
