Four suits filed by Richard Cachia Caruana requesting payment of civil damages were yesterday put off by the First Hall of the Civil Court after it resulted that an appeal from a preliminary judgment filed in one of the suits was pending before the Court of Appeal.

The prime minister's personal secretary filed his writs against Meinrad Calleja, Joseph Fenech, Carmel Attard and Ian Farrugia, asking the court to condemn them to make good the damages he had sustained after an attempt on his life in 1994.

All four men pleaded they were not responsible for any damages.

A preliminary judgment delivered in the suit filed against Calleja was now before the Court of Appeal.

Mr Justice Gino Camilleri put the four suits off until the appeal was decided upon.
