Obituary

AGIUS. On January 4, a few weeks from his 85th birthday, HUGO, passed peacefully away at St Luke's Hospital, comforted by the rites of Holy Church, surrounded by his family. Deeply mourned by his beloved wife Mary née Rizzo, his sons Jean and his wife Amanda, Frank (Jon Lukas) and his wife Mary, his grandchildren Mark, Maria, Lily, Ashley, and Rachel (daughter of his late son Ray Agius), his brothers and sisters Eddie, Emilio, Olga, Helvia and Yvonne and their spouses - R.I.P. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be greatly appreciated.

On January 5, at St Luke's Hospital, JOHN, of Mosta, known as l-Imghallem Gann, aged 74, ex-Farsons employee, widower of Emanuela, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his daughters Brigida and her husband Richard Smith, together with their children Maureen, Christian and Tiffany, residing in Australia; Dorothy and her husband Manwel D. Schembri and their sons Luciano and Fernando; Carmen, and her husband Martin Galea and their daughters Myriam and Stefania; his sister, his wife's brothers and sisters, his brother's widow, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2.45 p.m. for Mosta Rotunda parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.15 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Mosta cemetery. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

CIAPPARA. On January 4, at St Luke's Hospital, JOSEPH, aged 90, passed peacefully away, surrounded by his children, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his wife Rosemarie née Farrugia, his sons Victor and his wife Carmen, William and his wife Frances, of Australia, his step-sons Alfred Borg and his wife Therese, Charles Borg and his wife Christine, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 8 a.m. for Our Lady of Good Counsel parish church, Paceville, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to St Joseph Institute, St Venera, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. May the Lord grant him eternal rest.

FENECH. On January 6, Spiru, of Sliema, aged 80, ex-employee of Xandir Malta, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Doris, his children Charles, Martin, Josianne, Frankie, Antida and Joseph, their spouses, his grandchildren, his sister Vendra Azzopardi, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 2 p.m. for Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar Tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated.

GRECH. On January 6, JOSEPH (il-Haddied), of Victoria, Gozo, aged 76, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss his wife Esther, his children Emanuel and Margaret, Maria and Renald Galea, Loreta, Josephine and Joe Ghio, Lina and Michael Mizzi and Pauline. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Dr Antonio Ghio, LL.D., Dr Joseph Ghio, LL.D., Dr Joseph Grech, LL.D., Stephan and Reuben Grech, Roberto Galea, Silvio and Joseph Mizzi, his brothers and sister, in-laws, nephews and nieces, amongst whom Fr Charles Cini, SDB, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P. The funeral leaves Gozo General Hospital today at 3.30 p.m. for St George's Basilica, Victoria, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 4 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Marija Cemetery, Victoria.

VELLA. On January 5, at St Luke's Hospital, FRANCES née Abdilla of Paola, residing at Saura Home, Rabat, widow of Joseph, aged 90. She leaves to mourn her loss her nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 2.15 p.m. for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.45 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. May the Lord grant her eternal rest.

Help For 'quake Victims

Caritas International is assisting the victims of the Christmas Day earthquake in Iran, helped locally by Caritas.

Keel Boat Racing

A meeting for skippers of keel boats interested in racing is being held at the Vikings Sailing Club, at Haywharf on January 30 at 7.30 p.m. The club organises the Jennifer Bernard Trophy and the Royalty Shield every year.

Tourism Appointments

Lino Farrugia and Victor Gruppetta have been appointed to the Malta Tourism Authority board for 2004. Emanuel C. Pace was appointed to the human resource and support services board and Michael Upton to the product planning and development board.

Furniture Outlet

Contemporary design furniture retailers Studio Moda have opened a new outlet, Mass, on Mensija Road, San Gwann.

It sells designer and contemporary furniture, offering over 120 square metres of showroom space.

Mass is a cash and carry concept and will be also catering for contract clients, mainly cafeterias and holiday apartments among others.

Showroom Upgraded

Michael Attard Ltd, the Peugeot agent, has just completed upgrading its Psaila Street, Sta Venera showroom in line with the latest Peugeot Blue Brand Concepts.

The display and sales outlet is open from 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8.30 a.m. to noon every Saturday.

More Leg Room

Emirates is refitting the First and Business Class cabins on its 29-strong fleet of Airbus A330-200s, to provide more leg room.

The airline operates three direct flights each week from Dubai to Malta on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on the Airbus A330-200.

Health Centres' Opening Hours

The Health Division said that changes in the opening hours of health centres, as announced in the budget speech, have not yet come into effect. The health centres are open Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Mosta, Paola, Gzira and Floriana health centres are also open for emergency services only: Mondays - Fridays, 5 p.m. to 8. a.m. the following day; Saturday from 1 p.m. to Monday 8 a.m.

Pantomime Performances

Teatru Rjal Dramatic Company is presenting another two performances of the pantomime in Maltese Il-Milied ta' Charlie Chaplin in view of public demand.

These will be presented at the Catholic Institute, in Floriana on Saturday and Sunday at 6.30 p.m.

The pantomime is produced by Pawlu Testa and written and directed by Hector Bruno who plays the part of the dame - in this case portraying eight female personalities.

Dog Found

A medium-sized male terrier was found without a collar on the large roundabout on the Rabat - Mgarr road. It is beige with white socks and chest.

President's Engagements Today
