Three couples have been made members of the Augustinian Order for actively supporting it in its mission in Malta.

The token of affiliation was presented to Mr and Mrs Joseph De Conti Manduca, Mr and Mrs George Samuel and Dr and Mrs John C. Grech by the order's secretary general, Fr Miguel Angel Martin Juarez who was the guest of honour at the third anniversary dinner commemorating the inauguration of the Millennium Chapel, in Paceville, which has just been held at the Malta Hilton Portomaso Suite.

The presentation of the token of membership to the three couples has been hailed as a first for the Augustinian community in Malta since the election of the order's new General, Fr Robert Prevost.

The token, which represents the affiliation of lay people in the Augustinian order, specifically refers to the three couples' enthusiastic cooperation in the Millennium Chapel project. This affiliation qualifies lay people as effective members of the Augustinian Order making them share in the spiritual benefits of all the Masses, prayers, sacrifices and good works of the Augustinians throughout the world.

In presenting the affiliation, Fr Juarez explained that, in the eyes of the Augustinian Order, the three couples are representative of all the lay people who work with the Augustinians in Malta and abroad.
