It was supposed to be a distinct football afternoon as four matches from the Premier League were to be played yesterday after the Malta FA announced that the two games postponed on Saturday would be played the day after.
This did not materialise.
For the umpteenth time, the MFA was forced to revise its fixtures schedule yesterday morning after the pitch at the Hibernians Ground was deemed unfit to host the two matches scheduled to be played there in the afternoon.
The matches, Hamrun Spartans vs Balzan Youths and Valletta vs Marsaxlokk, have now been moved to this evening at the Centenary Stadium, kicking off at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively. Due to this fixture rescheduling, the Youth League matches between Hibernians and San Gwann and Mosta- Valletta, which had to be played this evening at the Centenary Stadium, have now been postponed to a later date.
On Saturday, the two top-flight matches earmarked for the National Stadium, Sliema Wanderers vs Hibernians and Birkirkara vs Floriana, were postponed for the next day because of the heavy rains that hit the island lately.
Luckily for the football fan who spent Saturday seeking updates on the postponed matches, the turnstiles of the National Stadium opened yesterday as the two Premier League encounters went ahead as planned.
Meanwhile, no new dates have been set for the two first division matches, San Gwann vs Marsa and St Patrick vs Mosta, which were also called off yesterday due to a waterlogged pitch at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
