AS Libertas retained their Village-to-Village Road Relay title yesterday after dominating the 18.1-km race from Vittoriosa to Birzebbuga, organised by the Malta Amateur Athletics Association.

The same AS Libertas formation that won the relay last year, was again in formidable form yesterday as they powered to an impressive combined timing of 58.37. Gerald Grech's time was 16.09, Ricky Baldacchino then followed with a 15.23, Peter Azzopardi covered his part of the relay in 13.45 and Charles Cilia breasted the finishing tape in 13.20.

The two Mellieha AC teams were second and third respectively as the bad weather and 'flu hit most of the runners who opted to skip the race.

Carol Galea led the Pembroke Athleta team to victory in the women's category in 1:13.21. Galea's three other team-mates were Stephanie Magri, Lorna Mifsud and Joelle Cortis.

The boys' race was won by St Patrick's AC in 1:08.31. The winning quartet was composed of Keith Tabone, Karl Zammit, Myvin Ellul and Andrea Camilleri.
