Two men were found dead yesterday in two separate incidents, the police said.
In the first incident, 26-year-old Charles Agius was found dead in an apartment in St Nicholas Street, Valletta.
It is believed that Agius, who lived with his mother and brother, died as a result of a drug overdose. This would be the second fatal overdose accident in a week.
However, a police statement said a doctor from a polyclinic, who was called in, certified Agius dead, but the cause of death was unknown. There were no external signs of violence on the body, the statement added. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
The police led by Superintendent Neil Harrison and the Valletta district police were investigating Agius' death.
Meanwhile, in Senglea, Philip Gilford, aged about 50, was found dead. His corpse was in an advanced state of decomposition.
Neighbours alerted the police that a strong smell was coming out of the building, where the man was staying. He is believed to have died of natural causes, but the cause of death will be established after an autopsy.
Police investigations are being led by the Cospicua district inspector and police.
Duty Magistrate Myriam Hayman was informed of both cases, and she appointed a number of experts to draw up reports.
