Louis A. Farrugia, group chief executive of Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, has been appointed the new chairman of The Sense Group (TSG) for the next two years.
The Sense Group, founded in 1997 by the major importers and producers of alcoholic beverages in Malta, aims to promote sensible drinking. Since then, TSG has run numerous campaigns aimed at preventing abuse of alcoholic beverages.
"In the coming months, TSG will adopt an increasingly proactive stand in preventing abusive drinking," Mr Farrugia said.
"In particular, TSG will be instrumental in campaigning against underage drinking. These campaigns will be directed at all stakeholders involved in the matter."
Mr Farrugia also announced that a Website for The Sense Group will be set up next month.
"TSG is in favour of making the necessary changes in the law to prevent minors from having access to alcoholic beverages. This would be in both the industry's and society's interest," he said.
