While thanking Ibn Campusino (University Commentary, December 7) for his kind words about the Malta Medical Students' Association's (MMSA) initiatives, I would like to point out that the Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention Committee (STIPC) is not a standing committee within the MMSA but a committee appointed by the Minister of Health to work on increasing awareness about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). STIPC and MMSA have worked closely together in the past, and this year's World AIDS Day campaign was a result of this collaboration.

May I also point out that another of MMSA's standing committees already runs a nutrition and exercise campaign in secondary schools. We have spoken to over 1,000 youngsters in the last year.

We agree with Ibn Campusino that such a campaign, together with an anti-smoking campaign organised for similar age groups, has helped to increase awareness on the prevention of various diseases.

As an upcoming project, SCOPH is also working with MKSU on the organ donation and blood drive campaigns.
