Sunday's matches confirmed early predictions that the race for the title will be limited to the two perennial challengers, Hibernians and Birkirkara.

Hibs chalked up their third victory in as many matches, annihilating Mosta 6-0. After Dorianne Theuma struck Hibs' first goal on 18 minutes, the match was illuminated by a stunning goal from Leslie Ann Galea whose looping drive from the halfway line caught Mosta goalkeeper Farrugia out of position on its way into the net.

There was no letting up from Hibs in the second period as they went on to hit another four goals through Sarah Caruana, Tereza Zammit, Lyndsay Shead and Patricia Borg.

Birkirkara were made to fight hard to extend their unbeaten start to four matches. In a balanced encounter, play ensued mostly in midfield with Melita frustrating their more-quoted opponents with their gritty and organised approach.

The match looked heading for a goalless draw before Elaine Bonnici snatched Birkirkara's winner three minutes from time.

Thanks to this victory, Birkirkara preserved their three-point lead over champions Hibs who have a game in hand. Hibs are widely expected to join Birkirkara on the 12-point mark when they meet Raiders on Sunday.

Leading scorers: D. Theuma, S. Caruana (Hibs) 5 goals; K. Saliba (Hibs), T. Zammit (Hibs), C. Fenech (Birkirkara) 3.

Sunday's fixtures: 9 a.m. Hibs vs Raiders; 11 a.m. Mosta vs Rabat Ajax.
