A Memory Tree of Lights - a tribute to loved ones lost to suicide - is being set up at the Millennium Chapel in Paceville and the first tree-lighting ceremony is being held there today at 8 p.m.
Relatives or friends can tether the names of their departed loved ones to these trees, which are scattered throughout the US and now in Malta.
The purpose of the tree is to provide comfort and support to people who lost loved ones to suicide; to create an awareness in the community of such dramatic losses, which deserve attention; to create a visual affirmation to depressed, or suicidal people who visit the tree that suicide is real and final; to help those who struggle with depression and are afraid to ask for help; and to keep in touch with loved ones in the belief that they are "living in God's arms".
Anyone wishing to remember their loved ones, who took their own lives, and those working with specialist organisations are invited to attend the ceremony and place decorations on the tree between tomorrow and the first Saturday in January.
