Excavation works in Swieqi yesterday afternoon unearthed an unexploded World War Two bomb, causing a few jitters in the neighbourhood.

The bomb, weighing some 500 kg was discovered in Triq it-Terz.

Residents in the surrounding areas were evacuated temporarily when the bomb was discovered around 4.30 p.m., as the Armed Forces' Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit was called in to remove it. The bomb was transported to the EOD unit at Manoel Island and will be disposed at sea, the AFM said.

Last October, another unexploded bomb from the Second World War was discovered during excavation works at Mosta.
