Last month started on a high note weatherwise, with the first day reaching 27.5°C, making it the second warmest November day since records started being kept in 1922 by the Meteorological Office.

The warmest November day ever occurred in 1998, when a temperature of 28.2°C was reached on November 6.

With a mean temperature of 18°C, November 2003 was almost one degree warmer than the average for the past 30 years.

The lowest temperature reached last month was 11.3°C, on the last day, last Sunday. The coolest November night in the past 80 years was in 1995 when the temperature on the night of November 23 reached a low of 5°C.

Over a period of 11 days, a total of 85.4 mm of rain was recorded at Malta's official rain guage at the airport. This was about eight mm less than the mean for the 30 years up to 2000.

The wettest November ever, that of 1999, had a total of 420.3 mm of rainfall - compared to that, only 2.6 mm were recorded in 1970.

The sky on the whole was slightly cloudier, letting in about 24 minutes less sunshine a day.

The wind, on average, was lighter, with a mean speed of 6.1 knots (11.3 kph). The most frequent direction throughout last month was the southeast, perhaps contributing mostly for the 78 per cent average relative humidity experienced last month.
