Malta was yesterday elected for the third consecutive time on the council of the International Maritime Organisation.

The election was held at the IMO headquarters in London.

The transport ministry said the election was prestigious for Malta as it confirmed that the country, which had the fifth largest merchant shipping register, enjoyed the respect of the international shipping community.
