The student organisation Pulse said that while the government was trying to solve the crisis facing all sectors of Maltese society, it was evident that this did not apply for the education sector.

Pulse said it had expected initiatives to strengthen facilities at educational institutions.

In its budget, the government failed to specify how it intended to solve the huge deficits of the University of Malta and its branches, such as the Junior College. Pulse however welcomed the proposed Lm1 million investment at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.

Students, Pulse added, would be negatively affected by the three per cent VAT increase since the cost of products they needed for their education would increase.

Despite the additional burden no compensation was being given to students.
