Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party yesterday lamented that the Clean up The World campaign is taking place today, a weekday, instead of on a weekend.
Alternattiva said the activity depended on civil society participation for its success and urged the public to participate.
"It would make more sense if such activities are held on weekends or public holidays," AD's spokesman for the environment Mark Causon said.
"On the other hand, AD notes that clean-ups would be useless in the face of land speculation which destroys the environment completely."
AD praised the initiative of the Qala local council which is planning a clean-up at Hondoq ir-Rummien.
"Yet, the greatest threat to this area is the planned mega tourist project which is still a pending application with the Malta Environment and Planning Authority," said Mr Causon.
