Twenty GermanS recently visited Gozo as part of a 15-year partnership and exchange agreement between the Gozo Ministry and the Akademie Klausenhof of Germany.
Led by Dr Cornelia Giesing, the group was also accompanied by Herr Holger Schierf, mayor of Hamminkeln, and his wife Christa.
During the eight-day visit the group met a number of Gozo's top political and administrative figures, including Minister Giovanna Debono, permanent secretary Frank J. Psaila and Victoria mayor Vivienne Galea.
They also attended a number of meetings with representatives of the Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Tourism Association to learn more about the particular conditions of the island and to interact and share experiences common to Germany.
The group also visited arts and craft industries, such as Axiak Brothers Stone Decorators, Gozo Glass, Ta' Dbiegi Crafts Village and Fontana Cottage Industry.
During a reception organised by Joseph Attard, head of the Gozo School of Arts and Crafts, the group was given the opportunity to visit the school's facilities and to observe classes in stained glass, pottery, gilding, clay modelling, art, Gozo lace and filigree work.
Carmel Attard, assistant director of Education in Gozo, was also present.
