Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities based in Luxembourg, reported that the first estimate for eurozone trade with the rest of the world in September 2003 indicated a surplus of €8.5 billion, compared with a surplus of €9.2 billion in September 2002.

The first estimate for EU trade with the rest of the world in September 2003 was a €0.5 billion deficit, compared with a €1.4 billion surplus in September 2002.

In the case of Malta, the value of total imports in September 2003 went up by Lm13.4 million to Lm109.3 million when compared to the same month last year, statistics from the National Statistics Office show.

Also in September 2003, total exports from Malta increased by Lm6.8 million to Lm82.1 million in value.
