When searching through the minutes of the Liverpool (UK) Libraries, Museums and Arts Committee for something entirely different, I came across a reference to a lecture held in the Picton Hall (a large lecture theatre in the Central Library) on The Siege of Malta, given on November 10, 1943 by Dobbie (presumably Sir William) which was attended by 1,118 people.
Other lectures given at about the same time only attracted an average of 300 attendees.
Perhaps this interest and obvious enthusiasm can help to put the recent dialogue about the place of the George Cross in the national flag of Malta into a Maltese/British historical and friendship perspective.
