DE GIOVANNI. On November 19, at her residence in Valletta, MARY née Saliba, widow of Anthony, aged 84, a most loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Catholic Church to meet with her Risen Lord. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her children Joe and his wife Mary, Lillian and her husband Lino Galea and Twanny, her sisters Carmela, widow of John Zahra, and Lucy Saliba, her grandchildren Ruth, Sarah, Michael and Emmanuel, Christine and her husband Andrè Ellul and Martin, her great-grandson Ryan, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves her residence today at 2.15 p.m. for St Augustine parish church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

FALZON. On November 19, at St Luke's Hospital, GIOVANNA née Muscat of Mgarr, aged 89, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her husband Giuseppe, her children and their spouses, Joe and Josephine, Rose and Nazzareno Vella, Margaret and Victor Camilleri, Maria Dolores and Edward Kirby, Paolina and Alberto Augugliaro, James and Mary, Mary Therese and Helmuth Barth, her 20 grandchildren and their spouses, her 19 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow for St Mary's parish church, Mgarr, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m., followed by interment at Mgarr cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Hamrun, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Merciful Lord, grant her eternal rest.

SCHEMBRI. On November 20, at St Luke's Hospital, JOSEPH of Msida, aged 81, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his son Mario and his wife Doriette, his daughter Anna and her husband Godfrey Baldacchino, his daughter Marisa and her husband Mario Micallef, grandchildren, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

THEUMA. On November 19, at Gozo General Hospital, THERESINA of Victoria, Gozo, aged 88, passed away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her children Dr Eddie Rapa and his wife Rose, Mariosa and her husband Saviour, and Maria, grandchildren, relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

Squash Marathon

The squash marathon to raise much needed funds for the Island Sanctuary for dogs at Delimara will kick off at the Sunny Coast Resort Club, Qawra tomorrow at 9 a.m. and will run until 8 p.m.

Power Cut

The electricity substation in Luqa Road, Luqa developed a fault early yesterday morning, affecting the power supply in Luqa Road and in a small part of the Marsa industrial estate, Enemalta said.

The service was expected to be restored by the evening.

Wreath-Laying

The Royal Malta Artillery Association will be holding a wreath-laying ceremony at the Addolorata Cemetery on Sunday at 10.15 a.m., meeting at the upper gate.

Bus Route 42

Bus number 42 resumed its normal route through Tumas Fenech Street, behind St Helen's Basilica, Birkirkara as from Wednesday, the Malta Transport Authority said.

Business Scholarship

The Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University, in New York State, is offering a four-year scholarship to a Maltese student, on the initiative of Frank Zarb, an American of Maltese descent.

Mr Zarb was the chairman of the National Association of Securities Dealers and of its stock market, the NASDAQ. The school of business was named after him in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the world of business.

The scholarship is aimed at a student, who should have completed at least a year of an undergraduate business, management or information technology course.

Applications may be submitted to the University of Malta by December 10. Further information may be obtained from the university's international office.

New Parish Priest

Archbishop Joseph Mercieca has appointed Fr Marco Portelli parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes parish, in Paola.

Born in April 1968, Fr Portelli was ordained in July 1996. He served as deputy parish priest at Msida and at Naxxar since 1999.

Maltasong Qualifiers

The Maltasong Board said the 36 compositions that qualified to the second phase of the Song for Europe 2004 Festival would be announced on Sunday at the Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel at 7 p.m.
