Malta exported €144 million worth of products to Germany between January and July this year and imported €152 million worth, the president of the German-Maltese Chamber of Commerce Henry Borg said recently.

Speaking at the chamber's first annual general meeting since it was set up in March last year, he said that apart from trade, German-Maltese business relations included tourism, environment, engineering, medicine, banking and financial services.

He said the chamber was in the process of obtaining recognition and membership in the Association of German Chambers, which had agreed to fund the services of a consultant to assist the Malta chamber.

The chamber was also working on the setting up an Academy for Technical Research which would be run on German models and to German standards.
