The Malta and Gozo Restaurants Association said a further increase in the VAT rate on tourism would deliver a death blow to the industry.

Referring to reports about an increase of VAT on consumption, it said raising VAT would not ease the financial deficit. Rather, the deficit would grow because a decline in tourism would mean a drop of revenue from VAT.
