I refer to the letter from Marthese Scerri in which she states that "Australia is still part of the British Empire".

I do not know in which part of the last century she is living in but it is generally agreed that the British Empire started to disintegrate after the second World War and completely disappeared (apart from a few small dependent islands scattered around the oceans) by the late 1960s.

What does exist is the British Commonwealth, which is basically a club whose members were all part of the British Empire. There are 54 member countries which include Canada, India, Pakistan, Australia, and South Africa, to mention but a few. All the member countries, including Malta, are independent and pursue their own policies.

She also writes: "A flag representing a country should display something which directly relates to that country". Well, if being awarded one of the highest honours for bravery is not important enough to warrant it being displayed on our flag then maybe Ms Scerri could enlighten us as to what will qualify for this honour.
