WasteServ Malta Ltd, of the Ministry for Resources and Infrastructure, recently added another eight bring-in sites for waste in Balzan, Safi, Rabat, San Gwann, Naxxar, Lija, Zebbug and Mosta.

This brings the total number of bring-in sites in various localities in Malta up to 24.

Plans are in hand to have a bring-in site in every locality in Malta and Gozo by the first quarter of 2004. WasteServ has launched an intensive educational campaign aimed at increasing awareness about the need to separate waste as well as encouraging the use of bring-in sites.

Bring-in sites are recycling facilities, consisting of four containers where the public can deposit segregated recyclable materials.

The containers are colour coded: blue for plastic, brown for glass, black for metal and white for paper. After collection the recyclable fractions are taken to the Sant'Antnin Waste Treatment Plant where further separation takes place. The recyclable materials are then directed towards recycling.

Further information about the bring-in sites and their use can be obtained by calling the WasteServ freephone number 800 72200.
