Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi yesterday opened the seventh diocesan congress being held over three days at the premises of Catholic Action, in Victoria.

The theme for this year's congress is Building an Authentic Christian Community. It is being attended by members of the clergy, religious, and laymen.

About 140 motions will be presented for discussion, approval and amendment during the congress which will serve as the plan for the work of the diocese in the coming years.

Yesterday evening's discussion focused on the ministry of the spoken word, the Eucharist and the family.

The session today between 9 and 11.30 a.m. will be on the parish, the diocese and the nation, while the last day of the congress tomorrow between 8.30 and 11.30 a.m. will address the European issue and globalisation.

The bishop will bring the congress to a close with an address on Sunday.
