Justice and Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said yesterday that 125 marriage separation cases and 150 annulment cases were filed before the Maltese courts between January and October this year along with three separation cases and three annulment cases in Gozo.
A total of 535 separation cases were pending in Malta and 28 in Gozo up to November 5, the minister said in reply to a parliamentary question by Adrian Vassallo (MLP).
The minister said there were 1,533 church weddings and 544 civil weddings last year. There were 1,113 church weddings and 575 civil weddings between January and September this year.
In Gozo, there were 121 church weddings and 41 civil weddings last year and 100 church weddings and 54 civil weddings between January and October.
The minister said 337 Maltese and 20 Gozitans married foreigners last year.
