Former Prime Ministers Dom Mintoff and Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici have once again written to European Commission President Romano Prodi, asking him to stop the implementation of the EU membership package.
In their letter, Mr Mintoff and Dr Mifsud Bonnici, who head the Front Maltin Inqumu, also lashed out at the two main political parties and said that the electorate had lost faith in both of them.
The letter is dated November 6, the day before Dr Mifsud Bonnici withdrew a motion he intended to move at the party general conference, for a common motion about the EU.
It is the second time in under a month that the FMI have written to Mr Prodi.
In the letter, the FMI said: "Labour voters have found it difficult to understand why the EU's package - vilified by their leader as utterly obnoxious during those local campaigns - has suddenly been welcomed as the only lifebuoy available for the island's salvation."
