Tony Drago booked his place in the second round of the British Open after he despatched the challenge of Nigel Bond 5-2 last night.

Drago was in fine form as he raced into a three-frame lead. However, Bond, the 1996 British Open winner, took the next two frames to put some pressure on the Maltese player. Drago kept his composure by claiming the next two frames to set up a second round clash with Jimmy White tomorrow.

John Parrott, a semi-finalist in the LG Cup, fell at the first hurdle in the £450,000 event. Parrott threw away a 4-1 lead against Andy Hicks, who battled back to complete a superb 5-4 victory.
