A libel suit against The Times was yesterday withdrawn after the parties reached an agreement.

Santo Zambuto had filed his libel suit against The Times following the publication of an article entitled "Ship carrying arms seized in Malta" in November 1997.

In yesterday's sitting the parties to the suit agreed that the publication was a faithful reproduction of a communication issued by the news agency ANSA and that The Times had not endorsed the contents of ANSA's report.

The parties further decided that the terms of their agreement were to be published in The Times under the heading "Libel suit settled".

The Times was also to declare that it apologised for all inconvenience that might have been caused to Zambuto, mentioned in the report.
