The Maltese Diabetes Association will be providing a free blood glucose monitoring service from November 13 - 17 following the overwhelming response from the public at a similar event last year.
The initiative will be held to mark World Diabetes Day on November 14.
The local theme for World Diabetes Day is "Diabetes - it can hit you too!".
The association said its main objective was to promote awareness on this condition in view of its high incidence in Malta. Prevention and early detection were the key to control this condition and members of the public were therefore being urged to avail themselves of this opportunity and take the first step to check their blood sugar levels.
The blood glucose monitoring service will be available on November 13 at the Savoy Shopping Arcade, Valletta; November 14 at Bay Street; November 15 at Arkadia Shopping Centre, Victoria and November 17 at the Plaza Shopping Centre, Sliema.
The opening hours will be from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. except for Bay Street where the service will be given from 5-9 p.m. At this venue, the Malta Medical Students Association (MMSA) will be supporting the initiative by organising a festival with the participation of established singers.
