The Gozo Youth Wind Band and Orchestra was recently inaugurated during a concert at the Don Bosco Oratory in Victoria.

Directed by Mro Joseph Grech, the founder of the group, the concert gave the young musicians the opportunity to show their talent. The concert also featured singers Pamela Bezzina and Lawrence Gray.

The Gozo Youth Wind Band is made up of 54 members, and the Gozo Youth Orchestra consists of 29 musicians aged 10 to 28.

Mro Grech said that the aim is to give youngsters the opportunity to develop their talents as a mixed group while meeting young musicians from other countries. It is planned to bring tutors from abroad to coach the young musicians.

All members of the group have to follow the guidelines laid down by the Derbyshire City and County Youth Band and Orchestra to maintain a high standard.

"This will surely be benefit the quality of bands and orchestras in Gozo and encourage youngsters to take up music," Mro Grech said.
