The Society of Architecture and Civil Engineering Students (SACES) organised a workshop for architecture students on the theme "Alternatives" at the former Golden Sands Hotel.

This year's workshop revolves around sustainability in architecture, however this time the students are aiming at presenting alternatives to construction design by amalgamating recycled materials with commonly used building materials. SACES invited participants to work with hybrids of material created from the joint use of recycled and newly fabricated materials.

Six teams of ten students each, led by two architects, participated in these workshops. The layout of the event was as follows: the week before the workshops students and architects met for brainstorming sessions to draft ideas and schemes for the workshops. During the workshops the teams concentrated on constructing the idea of their choice.

Today marks the completion of the workshops. Tomorrow the workshops are dismantled and reassembled on campus. This will enable participants to present their work to other students and the media. A report on the workshops will be drafted and presented to the Chamber of Architects and the Ministry for Rural Affairs and Environment.
