Bonello re-appointed Central Bank governor

Michael C. Bonello has been re-appointed governor of the Central Bank of Malta for a period of five years with effect from October 1.

He was first appointed governor for a period of two years on October 1, 1999, and his appointment was subsequently extended for another two-year term.

Before he became governor, Mr Bonello was a senior official at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Following recent amendments to the Central Bank of Malta Act, the term of office of the governor and other members of the board of directors is of five years and renewable.

Mr Bonello's re-appointment was made by the President acting on the advice of the Prime Minister.
