This drainage overflow is a frequent occurrence here in Mosta and has been overflowing before the storms. This has been going on since last year when the road coming down from the direction of Horseshoe Bar was completed. Several houses also had the misfortune of having sewage backflow into their garages/basements, at times more than once.

This latest sewage overflow started on September 5 and was reported to the drainage section and Mosta council virtually the next day. On September 12, I received an acknowledgment from the Mosta council regarding my complaint.

Nothing happened. The storm came on September 15, the floods subsided but the sewage overflow continued.

On October 9, something started being done to clear the problem just after the letters by Mr Agius appeared in The Times.

Today the problem of overflow has been cleared but I am sure it will come back again, unless the pipework at the bottom of the hill is replaced with a bigger one to take the new flow.

I must ask: Is it acceptable to take a month to clear the blockage and sewage? Next time round, do we have to suffer another month of intolerable sewage stinks and irreparable damage to our properties and to Mosta valley?

Mosta council members please wake up. You started something to ease the flooding on this part of Mosta which, however, you have not finished yet.
